Is Your Roof Trying to Tell You Something?
How many times have you been driving down the road and seen one of the lights on your dashboard light up? While you might not want to see that light come on telling you that something is wrong, it’s a nice warning that you need to get your vehicle looked at. Well, your roof is the same way. Even though there isn’t a light that is going to come on telling you there is a problem, it does give you warning signs of something gone wrong.
Many people end up ignoring all of those beautiful warning signs until something major happens and they are stuck with a huge repair bill. Wouldn’t you rather have your roof looked at before it turns into something disastrous? For most people, the answer is yes. No one wants to spend thousands on repairs if they can avoid them. By being proactive and doing something about the damage on your roof, you can help to alleviate some of the hassles and headaches later on down the line.
After all, do you really want to wait until your roof gives way and a big pile of water comes crashing down on your big screen television or ruins all of your priceless family heirlooms? Of course, not. If you aren’t sure what you should be looking for, the signs are actually easier to spot than what you might think.
Take a walk around the outside of your home. You want to step back far enough that you are going to be able to see your roof clearly. Do you notice anything out of the ordinary? Are there any dark patches, blotches or streaks on the roof? Have any shingles come loose or fallen off? Is the flashing around the chimney still in-tact? Are any of the shingles, tiles or shakes curling, cracked or split?
Even though you might not be an expert in the field, you have enough common sense to see if something isn’t right. Anytime something looks different, it is normally one of the first signs that something else is going on. Any odd marks or imperfections are a sign that the underneath of your roof has been exposed to the elements outside.
Instead of letting water make its way through your home, do something about it by calling in someone who knows what it takes to get the job done right. Don’t waste time by sitting there and ignoring the warning signs. You are only going to make the problem worse in doing so.
